Above all else, Kael'thas Sunstrider is defined by his lineage and the burden he bears because of it. He is the leader of his people, leader of the Sin'dorei, and he will do whatever it takes to ensure their survival.

Kael’thas is a man of pride, duty, honor, passion, determination, vengeance, and to some extent, guilt. Kael'thas was notably absent during the fall of Quel'thalas, having been away studying at Dalaran during the Scourge invasion (it is in fact several days before he arrives in Silvermoon). At the time, Kael’thas was not yet prepared to take his father's place as the King of the Quel'dorei, and it shows in his actions going forward (as he would make many choices that others saw as hasty and dangerous, such as destroying the Sunwell without knowing the consequences). Kael’thas remarks in the viewing of his father that:

" I fear I am not ready, Father. You are the King. You will always be the King."

When he says his final goodbyes to his father, all he wishes for is the strength to lead his people, to make his father proud. Likewise, all of his actions after this point can be seen as desperate attempts to hold his broken kingdom together, to attempt to fix what is broken rather than to move forward and heal. His father, Anaesterian, reigned for over 2800 years, and the very thought of seeing his entire kingdom crumble in a few paltry years would be an insurmountable failure. As the ruler of his people, Kael’thas will do anything and everything to ensure their survival.

In the wake of the destruction of the Sunwell, as tribute to his father and those fallen, he renames the Quel'dorei the Sin'dorei, or children of the blood. He also takes up the verdant spheres, which powered Ban'dinoriel (the shield that protected Quel’thalas) both to protect them and a physical reminder as to the sacrifices the Sin'Dorei have made. No longer satisfied with sitting back (and perhaps ashamed for his absence in the fall of Quel’thalas) he becomes a leader who is always on the front lines, and he appoints Lor’themor as reagent in his absence. On a level, his vengeance is quite personal—the leader of the Scourge being Arthas Menethil. Arthas, whom Kael’thas had met several years prior in Dalaran, had not only killed his father and left his land in ruins, but had also stolen the affection of Jaina Proudmoore, whom he was courting. Kael’thas finds his strength to rule in vengeance, and it is an ideal that one day overtakes him entirely.

The curse and the addiction of the Sin'dorei to magic is also very important to his character, as it is a deep seated thirst that eventually permeates all other thoughts. Kael'thas, being a powerful mage, was hit particularly hard by it, and unable to cast spells, he explored any avenue to cure it, even using blood magic as an alternate to true mana.  Kael's desperation in this, to resort to shadow magic (and later with an alliance Illidan) is only the beginning of the lengths he would go, each one being arguably more damaging than the last.

Over the course of Warcraft, Kael’thas is met with increasingly harder and harder situations (from the Sin'dorei's addition to magic, to being imprisoned by the Alliance) yet he never falters. No matter what problem presents itself, Kael’thas always finds a solution, even though they are increasingly desperate and dangerous. A younger Kael’thas might have balked at the idea of allying with the exiled Naga (indeed he hesitates at first), and the betrayer Illidan, but there is little other choice. By aligning himself with Illidan, Kael’thas is quite aware that he is almost literally making a deal with a demon himself-- moreover, he knows the dangers firsthand of dealing with dark magic (having seen Kel'thuzad succumb to it). Yet he takes the plunge anyway, accepting these dangers as a risk he needs to accept. Failure for his people is not an option, and the end justifies the means. Overtime, his thirst for vengeance as well as his increasing exposure to fel magic (through Outland itself and the verdant spheres) begins to wear on him and he becomes more insular (drifting away from Illidan and Lady Vashj, and even his own advisers). Although he is not yet the mad, power hungry, Kael’’thas of the Burning Crusade, he has already begun to walk down that path.

Outside of his role as prince, Kael'thas is also a talented mage: brilliant, curious, passionate and with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. Magic, as opposed to ruling, is a skill he has nurtured his whole life and such he is quite comfortable in situations that involve it. In Rise of the Lich King, it's said that for all of Kael’thas's prestige, he was actually fairly approachable and amiable, despite the typical xenophobia of blood elves. His expressed romantic interest in Jaina is evident of this, despite her being a human and not of proper noble descent.  Still, Kael’thas is undoubtedly royalty, and he can come off as both imposing and cold at times. To be a ruler, Kael’thas knows that his emotions and words should be guarded and composed (and for the most part they are, aside from talks of vengeance and Arthas). Like all blood elves Kael’thas can also come off as arrogant and haughty at times, particularly when it comes to magic. Similarly, he also has an intense amount of pride in his land and people, and views Sin'dorei food and culture above all else. Kael'thas too, has a certain value to aesthetics, as he still manages to look fairly elaborate and put together, even when he was in the plain robes of the Kirin Tor.

In summation, Kael'thas is a character that faced with the threat of destruction (failure) , goes to increasing lengths to stave it off. Arguably each choice he makes after becoming Lord of the Blood Elves is more damning (both for him and his people), and each step takes him further and further down the rabbit hole. But there's no going back, only forward, and him and his people will endure — they have to, for their fallen brothers and sisters.

Character Powers & Skills: Kael’thas is a powerful mage (specifically he meets the requirements to be called both a blood mage and arguably an archmage) and is capable of casting numerous spells. Due to his prowess of arcane magic, he's proficient in all disciplines (barring necromancy as it's forbidden) , but is said to be rather skilled in Abjuration and Enchantment. Rather than list all the spells in the schools (as it would be fairly lengthy), a general overview of the schools will be given. Spells that are iconic to Kael’thas will be described in more length.

Abjuration: school of protective magic, shields, armor, wards.

Conjuration: summoning, largely consisting of water elementals. Also includes summoning the basic food of bread and water. This food is not as filling as food of non-magical origins, but it can do in a pinch; also is limited to one of a few portions (he wouldn't be able to feed more than a few people with it).

Divination: gathering information, scrying. Arguably Kael’thas's weakest school and for purposes in Consignment, he wouldn't try to scry or see the future.

Enchantment: imbuing objects (or people) with magical power; enchantments can be temporary or permanent. Disenchanting, stripping objects of their magical properties, and dispelling magic also falls under this category. Kael’thas's mastery of enchanting is so much so that he is capable of creating magical weapons, which he can manipulate remotely and can fight on their own.

Illusion: art of deceiving reality, such as brief invisibility.

Transmutation: manipulation of time and space. The most iconic spell of this school is polymorph, which transforms the target into a harmless critter (usually a sheep) for several seconds. Teleportation is also included in this school.

Outside of arcane magic, Kael’thas also knows some fel magic. At current this is limited to “mana tap” which gives him the ability to drain magic from inanimate objects (such as crystals and jewelry) and from living beings. This grants him no additional powers or strength, rather it’s used to stave his addiction to magic now that the Sunwell is destroyed.

Specific Powers (spells)

Mana Shield: Shield damage using mana; Kael’thas is quite adept at this spell and it’s said that his version of mana shield was unparalled.

Teleportation: Teleport from one area to another; can also teleport a nearby person. Teleportation requires knowledge of the destination or it can go horribly wrong.

Arcane Torrent: Release a burst of arcane energy that silences any nearby spellcasting for several seconds.

Living bomb: Embeds a living bomb of fire in an enemy that deals damage over time before exploding.

Flamestrike: A powerful fire spell that conjures a pillar of flame that deals heavy damage in an area

Pyroblast: Summons a large powerful fireball that deals massive damage.

Summon Phoenix:
Summon a phoenix as a familiar to assist in battle. Phoenixes are capable of fire magic and be reborn from their ashes. Kael’thas’s phoenix seem to be unique to him, and is named Al’ar.

Gravity Lapse: Ensnares an enemy in a vortex and throws them up into the air.

Additionally, Kael'thas is fairly adept in strategic warfare, leading his people to numerous victories, against all odds.

◎ Weapons & Other Special Inventory: ❧ Verdant Spheres: Formerly the three crystals that empowered, Ban'dinoriel, the magical barrier protecting Silvermoon. Despite being overloaded to destroy the Sunwell, they are still capable of empowering fire spells to be more potent.

They are tainted by fel (demonic) magic.

❧ Red and gold robe with accompanying plate armor.

❧ Vial from the Well of Eternity

❧ Felo’melorn An ancient Highborne runeblade once wielded by Kael'thas' father. Kael'thas had it reforged after it broke when Arthas invaded Quel'thalas.

CEREALIA-Specific

◎ Element: Fire. Not only is Kael one of the quintessential fire users in Warcraft, fire suits his actions and his tendency to burn bright (and burn out). His personal familiar is a phoenix as well, which embodies his and the Sin'dorei's struggle.
◎ Sense: Sight. Like all Sin'dorei, Kael has a certain love of aesthetics and can be vain about appearances.
◎ Seven Character Traits: (Determined, Cunning, Resourceful) | (Obsessive, Prideful, Misguided) + Dutiful

◎ Is your character retaining any previous game memories? No.
